How to Crochet a Tulip Flower

Materials Needed:

  • Yarn of your choice for the tulip body (any color)
  • Green yarn for the stem
  • 3.5 mm crochet hook
  • Metal floral wire or BBQ stick for stem
  • Cotton stuffing (or recycled material)
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Glue or glue gun

Steps:

  1. Create the Chain
    Start by chaining 16.

  2. Single Crochet Foundation
Turn your work to the back of the chain.
Insert your hook into the first “bump” and make 1 single crochet.
Continue making single crochets across the chain into each bump.

  3. Create the Tulip Petals

    • For the next row, turn your work and make single crochets into the back loops only.
    • Repeat this pattern for each row until you have a total of 25 rows.
The piece will start to curve naturally, creating the tulip shape.
  4. Connect the Ends
Once you’ve completed the 25 rows, chain 1 and pull tight, leaving a long tail.
Use your tapestry needle to weave the ends together, ensuring the right side is inside as you sew.
Sew through the inner loops to connect both ends, and tie off the loose yarn securely.

  5. Assemble the Tulip Flower
Insert the floral wire or BBQ stick into the base of the tulip.
Add cotton stuffing to fill the tulip and give it its shape.
Secure the wire or stick with glue at the base.

  6. Wrap the Stem
Use green yarn to wrap the floral wire or BBQ stick, making the tulip stem. Secure with glue.
